JEKenjac's Questions

it seems that this will fit any matching housing size, regardless of the brand. What am I not understanding?

I have a 7.25" x 8" old non-working fan, from a third party (not Nutone/Broan). I was able to remove this with no problem, and now have the existing housing in my ceiling, with those measurements. Your 690 kit seems like a fine (and perhaps the only) readily available commercial solution to my problem, given the measurement constraints. It seems that you are providing all of the parts in the kit, and don't use any of the old parts, except for the old housing.

Perhaps the existing plug will be in the way?

I am very pleased to report that this worked. I think that the older cheapie fan must have been using a Nutone/Broan enclosure. In particular, there were two slits on the end of the enclosure opposite the plug. Also the plug was located in just the right place. I thought that I would need to snip away some of the 690's sheet metal, but in the end it fit like a glove.

The new fan is much quieter and more effective than the old one (when the latter still worked). I am a very happy customer, all the more so because I got rather lucky regarding the old enclosure.
